Blood is thicker than water

Kyoko has grown up most of her life immersed in Asian culture where one holds high reverence for family. She has learned that family is the strongest bond there is and can lead you out of the deepest, darkest despair if you embrace it. With such a unique upbringing, she has had almost no choice but to rely on her family and them on her. Early on, Kyoko knew nothing of what her parent’s jobs entailed or what exactly it was that her older brother skipped out on school for. When the truth was revealed to her, she felt enormous guilt that they had been doing so much for her and she had no idea. She resolved to herself, to never forget all they have done and to repay it back to them. Since she developed her own powers, she has been completely selfless in her duties to her family. With her inheritance of the sword, she has had a large burden placed on her. Her family has no choice but to rely on her in times that the sword is needed to resolve issues.

Kyoko did not know her father had a brother until he literally showed up on their doorstep one day. It came as utter surprise to her that such a stranger was showed so much respect from both her mother and father. They explained, that her uncle was actually much older than her father and had been an active Jade Warden for over two centuries. He had come to them to seek aid on a dire mission. Kyoko felt honor bound to find out as much about her uncle as she could during the time he stayed with them. She drowned him with questions about what his super powers were. What kind of trouble he and his brother got into when they were young. Did he ever find a woman to love and marry? Will he stay with them after the mission? It was during some intelligence gathering that they found their target in a bar. They were content with just watching until they heard screams and sounds of fighting. They had to intervene or many innocents would die. Kyoko and her uncle rushed into the bar and confronted the vampire. Her uncle’s information was not correct to the power level of this one though and it soon overtook him during the battle. The relatively inexperienced Kyoko could not stand by and let a family member that had just entered her life, fall prey to this evil. She brandished her sword and charged the vampire as it feasted on her uncle. It had initially ignored her during the fight so it was not prepared for such as blow as was struck to it. The sword’s lineage held true and had dealt a horrible wound. Her uncle slumped powerless to the floor and Kyoko put herself into a position to take the fighting away from him. The vampire, blinded by rage, charged after her but she evaded. It charged again but still missed. It was not fast enough and was injured so it had no hope of catching her. It took one last look at her uncle and fled.

To this day, Kyoko feels guilty for what happened to her uncle. He was crippled by the attack and has yet to recover. She often tends to him in their home but his moments of lucidity are rare and fleeting. Kyoko understands the pain of having someone close to her get hurt. She will not let it happen again. She is much more prepared than she was in the past to protect her family and will do so without hesitation.
