When Kyoko came of age to inherit her sword she needed proper training to wield it’s full power. There was no lack of martial arts teachers in Asia where her family was at the time. Her parents had many contacts throughout the continent from their years of work there so they hooked her up with several masters for training. The most notable trainer was from their times in Japan, where her family had a real home and base of operations. Kyoko still attended regular school for the most part but spent many months under the tutelage of a master high in the mountains (think Kill Bill). This time away from the bustle of real life allowed her to forget everything and focus on the art of the blade. Each time she returned from her lessons she learned something new. Not only about how to wield a katana but about herself as well. Her teacher stressed that learning the art of the katana was a life long endeavor and she should never become complacent about her skills. While she did develop considerable skills with her katana, Kyoko was still very young and inexperienced when it came to fighting in general. This was one reason she was kept out of many missions even after learning to wield the blade.

At the age of 20, Kyoko is easily a match for any skilled mortal swordsperson on her side of the continent. She’s taken lessons from masters across Asia and practiced her art many times on the battlefield. Combined with her enhanced vision and the powers inherent in her sword she is a deadly foe whenever wielding her katana in the name of the Jade Wardens.
